RED COMPARTIDA

The biggest telecommunications project in the Mexico history

Red Compartida

It is a project of the reform in telecommunications which seeks to create greater competition in the telecommunication market, as well as to increase coverage of telecommunications in Mexico by offering access to its infrastructure and capacity as a service.

It exclusively offers wholesale telecommunications services through a 4.5G or higher wireless network that uses 90 MHz of the 700 MHz band, under the band scheme 28.

Deployment of coverage

It has progressive population coverage goals under which it must offer services to 85% of the population no later than January 24, 2022 and 92.2% of the population no later than January 24, 2024. It must also cover progressively to 111 towns denominated as “Pueblos Mágicos” for January 24, 2022.

On March 21, 2018, launched operations providing coverage to 32.2% of the country’s population. Check the progress of the project here.

The minimum data transmission speed that must be offered is 4 Mbps downlink per 1 Mbps during the network peak hour, according to the methodology defined by the Federal Telecommunications Institute.

PPP

It is developed under a scheme of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in which the investments, construction and operation of the network is the responsibility of the private partner, Altán Redes, which was selected by SCT through a International Competitive Tender.

For the Public part, Promtel facilitates the use of the 700 MHz band under the lease figure, while Telecomm opens the possibility of using a pair of fiber optic strands (filaments) of the Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission fiber optic network.

Likewise, Promtel is responsible for the administration of the PPP Contract and relies on the Technical Auditor and other entities to supervise the project.

Will lower even more their prices

Between 2014 and 2015, mobile telephone and broadband prices have been reduced. The Shared Network will contribute for mobile services prices to continue lowering.

Will promote productivity and competitiveness

A more dynamic telecommunication sector promotes higher national and foreign investment and strengthens productivity and competitiveness of the economy of the country.

Will promote digital service innovation
